TEEN COURT

Teen Court is a mechanism for youth charged with status offenses, such as alcohol or drug possession and other misdemeanor or traffic offenses. The teens are held accountable and the teen courts promote and provide avenues for positive development.

Teen Court provides jurisdiction with an alternative method for sanctioning these youth offenders. Teen Court mobilizes a diverse mix of youth volunteers for active and constructive involvement in readdresing problems in their communities. This presents a unique opportunity to teach young people valuable life skills. It also sends a strong message to the community (including youth) that young people do not condone law-breaking behaviors, including underage drinking, use of drugs or driving citations.

WHAT DOES TEEN COURT DO?

It educates youth on the impact of their behavior on themselves, their families, and their communities. It alo gives youth a second chance to keep their record clean. Sentences are deferred one time. Insurance rates do not go up.
